Former South African national champion Jean-Pierre Brits has been appointed men’s team coach for the upcoming WSF World Team Championships, which are taking place at Hong Kong Football Club from 9-15 December.

Brits, who represented South Africa at major competitions including WSF World Team Championship, WSF Squash World Cup, and the WSF World Doubles Championship, will call upon that experience as guides Squash South Africa’s men’s team in Hong Kong, China.

Speaking to the Mossel Bay Advertiser, Brits said: “I’m really excited about the opportunity. South Africa has a young set that is in a new phase of development.” He added that events such as the World Team Championships would also provide an ideal testing ground for South Africa’s players ahead of squash’s Olympic debut at the LA28 Olympic Games.

The WSF World Team Championships are held biennially and feature National Federation teams of three players players battling it out against each other to be crowned World Champions.

This year’s event at Hong Kong Football Club will be the first time the men’s and women’s events are held simultaneously, with the competition traditionally alternating each year.
