The finalists have been confirmed for the 2024 Pan American Championships as Nicole Bunyan and Danielle Ray made history for Canada in the women’s event, while Colombia’s Ronald Palomino reached the final for the first time to earn a showdown with three-time champion Diego Elias of Peru.

In the women’s event, there will be an all-Canadian final for the first time after top seed Nicole Bunyan and No.2 seed Danielle Ray both fought back from a game down to take down Colombian [3/4] seeded opponents. Bunyan beat Lucia Bautista 3-11, 11-9, 15-13, 8-11, 11-9 in 50 minutes and Ray overcame Catalina Pelaez 9-11, 11-7, 13-11, 13-11 in 30 minutes as both players reached the championship game for the first time.

The men’s final, meanwhile, will see top seed Elias take on tournament surprise package Palomino. The Colombian has been in excellent form in Lima, taking down [5/8] seed Diego Gobbi in the second round before blowing away Argentian No.2 seed Leandro Romiglio 11-7, 11-1, 11-4 in the quarter-final and then defeating Canadian [5/8] seed Salah Eltorgman 11-4, 11-1, 4-11, 11-8.

Elias, meanwhile, has made assured progress on home court, dropping just one game en route to the final.
